Roommates: The Gross Boy

First off I would like to start by saying that not all boys are gross, my experience just relates to a gross boy, hence the title.

So my first year of renting out two rooms in my house I was getting desperate for money and so when this guy called to check out the place I told him he could come by, even though I wanted to have a female only house. The guy came by, he was clean looking, not bad on the eyes and my dog didn't try to bite him so I figured he would be good. He moved in pretty much right away, and lived me for four months in the summer, before my other two roommates moved in. During that time he cut my grass, cleaned up all the time and was a superb roommate. Once the other two roommates moved in though he went odd... starting emptying his backpack on the couch and leaving his stuff everywhere. Dishes started to go dirty, the bathroom got dirty (sometimes I think he forgot how to aim), and the most grotesque part was that he would start to listen to porn without headphones. Since the walls were thin, we could all hear him and his friend watching porn together... awkward  doesn't even begin to describe the scenario of watching him and his friend walk out afterwards. Needless to say things went downhill fast, and when he asked to move out early I jumped at the chance to get his ass out, but not without a penalty of keeping his last month's rent  for cancelling his rental agreement early.

Lesson of the story, even though a roommate might seem good at first, its a good idea to check out their full story. Make sure to always check references, and find out if they are lying or not. In this case he had told me he was going to school, and working at such and such a place, but he was unemployed half the time he was there, and his definition of school was an online WHIMIS course. Even though I got rid of him early, I still lost money by losing a roommate for two months. Check the facts, and make sure you don't end up with a gross boy (or girl) as a roommate.
